TEROWONGAN WIHELMINA

TEROWONGAN WIHELMINA

Wihelmina TUNNEL
Wilhelmina tunnel is the longest railway tunnel in Indonesia. This tunnel has a length of 1116 meters and is built to support the rail route Banjar - Pangandaran - Cijulang (82 km). The tunnel is located on the border between the village and village Bagolo Emplak, Ciamis regency, West Java Province.
Wilhelmina tunnel built by the railroad SS (Staats Spoorwegen) and was built in 1914 and put into use on January 1, 1921. But this tunnel and then into non-active as the closing of the railway route Banjar - Cijulang (82 km) on 3 February 1981 because of high operating costs and the lack of inclusion of the passenger train.

In mid-1990, PT Railway (Corporation) ever tried to revive the route Banjar - Cijulang. In addition as an alternative to public transportation, as well as to develop tourism in South Kudat. At that time there is the consideration that train travel route Banjar - Cijulang can be sold as a package.
Current condition of the tunnel Wilhelmina cause for serious concern, with the missing rail and tunnel face are not neglected, the roots of the plants covered with shrubs, eliminating the prestige of history and tourism assets of the longest tunnel in Indonesia.
Tunnel source in earlier times called Wilhelmina Tunnel was built in the Dutch colonial era and inaugurated on June 1, 1921. the first railway tunnel connecting the Banjar-Cijulang. Due to the demise of the railway line to die anyway Banjar Cijulang the tunnel is and is not used anymore. The tunnel is adjacent to two other shorter tunnels. respectively 105 and 147 meters. All three are tripariat has now been renamed Tunnel Sources. Still in a series of tracks there are also some fairly long bridge is the bridge cikacepit.
Jempatan Cikacepit It was amazing masterpiece, a bridge as if hanging in the air. Cikacepit bridge has a length of 1,250 m ± 1.70 m in width to the height of the ground about 100 m without protective frame on the right of the bridge. Protective for people who happen to cross it at the bottom, so people have to climb the ladder first.

The condition is very poor even this tunnel, rail has lost some where in it just a lot of seepage water that enters, terowongannyapun mouth is filled with grass and shrubs, the fact of this tunnel is historical evidence that should be maintained. In addition to historical evidence, this tunnel can also be used as historical sights.
